I believe I may be a little biased because I adore dogs, and thus I automatically love this picture. However, you did a really good job at capturing Wingy as well as giving the attention deserved. The use of a shallow depth of field aids in making him the center of the attention without having to center him in the shot. I like where you positioned him, I also like how he is looking out of the picture. It makes you wonder what he is looking at, so it gets you thinking about the back story of the photo. Also, I think the grayscale adds another dimension to it. I feel it wouldn't be as strong in color.

Speaking a bit more technically, there is some clipping in the highlights on his head...or a loss of the detail due to it being to bright. There might be a chance you can recover it in Lightroom or Photoshop if you are working with the RAW file. Aside from the clipping, Im really pleased with the picture.
